The Patrol Division is responsible for the initial response to calls for police service and the prevention of criminal activity. In 2005 the Patrol Division responded to 12,393 calls for police service. Among those calls were 1,273 auto accident, 1.164 aided cases, 1,791 residential alarms, 931 calls for assistance, 986 E911 verification and 404 arrests.

While the police service demands continue to increase, the department chooses to resist the temptation to become a reactive force that merely responds to events as they occur. It remains proactive in providing service and protection to the community and emphasizes omnipresence and preventative patrol.
