The Garden City Police Department has a proactive parking enforcement policy which it believes contributes to an image of omnipresence and a sense of order. The Department's proactive approach is also an important component in it's effort to protect lives and property by enforcing fire zones, no parking zones and handicap zones. In addition to police officers on patrol issuing parking tickets, uniformed civilian police aides in conspicuously marked vehicles patrol the many crowded parking fields within the Village. In 2005 the Department's parking enforcement efforts yielded 15,755 parking tickets, four vehicle impounds and the investigation of many unlawfully used handicapped parking permits.
